INTER-ISLAND CONTEST SOUTHERN TEAM'S VICTORY [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] . WELLINGTON, Wednesday In a very fast and bright game, the South Island beat the North Island by ;U points to 14 to-day in the first interJsland Rugby match organised by the University Football Council for the silver rose bowl given to the New Zealand University team while touring Japan. The South Island team had the advantage of weight in the forwards, and a ready-made combination in the backs, as most of the players came from one college. They had considerably the better of the first half and were leading by 16 points to 3 at half-time. The North Island team scored three tries early in the second half and the South Island team then recovered and added three more tries to its score, all of which were converted.
