PROPOSAL FOR DRAINAGE REDUCTION MADE IN RATES ; [from our own correspondent] ( TUAKAU, Tuesday i Discussing the proposal to instal a • drainage scheme for the congested area at Tuakau, at a meeting of the Tuakau ; Town Board last night, the chairman,. Mr. G. Arrowsmith, said there would [ be strenuous opposition on the part of some of the ratepayers to a loan poll at present. Only three ratepayers [ in the area had attended the public. meeting called by the board to dis--5 cuss the proposal. Messrs. M. A. Cruickshank and A. ; F. Escott proposed that a modified , scheme, to serve the central part of : the area, be prepared to meet the pre--1 sent need. The proposal was carried ' and the chairman and clerk, Mr. M. - : R. D. McGahan, were deputed to mark out the modified scheme and prepare . the estimates for it. -.£• Rates for the current year totalling 2gd in the pound were struck. This is a reduction of 3d on last year's rate, which was 2|d. Arrangements were made to plant trees round the edge of the ornamental triangle at the junction of George Street and Pukekohe Road.
