CHALLENGE TO OTAGO PREPARATIONS IN SOUTHLAND [from oub own coriusbpondknt] DUNEDIN, Tuesday Dunedin is faced with the greatest' football invasion in New Zealand history on August 1, when Otago will be called upon to make its first defence of the Kanfurly Shield against its neighbours. Already tha Southlanders are massing and one of the organisers of the excursionists estimates that 8000 visitors will be present from the southern province. That the occasion is to be a special one is indicated by the announcement that approximately 100 pipers will accompany the touring party.

The junior management board of the Auckland Rugby Union last evening granted a request by King's College for a match next Saturday, and the Grammar third grade colts team vas allotted the fixture at King's College ground. It was decided that the result of the Eden-St. George's sixth grade match of last Saturday should stand. G. Young was transferred from the Eden Club to Ponsonby. NORTH AUCKLAND UNIONS [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA, Tuesday The annual meeting of the executive of the Rugby Unions in the northern zone of North Auckland was held at Rangiahua on Monday night. This executive was formed ten years ago to control inter union Rugby in the four northern counties of Bay of Islands, Whangaroa, Hokianga and Mangonui. The balance-sheet showed a small credit balance on last season's working. The following officials were elected: —Chairman, Mr. A. Macfarlane; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. C. Orr. The draws for the northern zone matches for the Harding. Brake and Powell Shields were arranged. These shields, which are controlled by the North Auckland Union, are competed for in zones, and the final is between the leading team in the northern zone, the four northern counties of North Auckland, and the winners of the southern zone, the southern counties of North Auckland. Trial matches were arranged for the selection of the North Auckland team that is to tour the South Island at the end of August and the beginning of September. The finances for this tour were also discussed. Mr. L. Brake, president of North Auckland, explaining the method by which it was hoped to raise the necessary funds for the tour.
