KING RETAINS TITLE
MASTER OF MERCHANT NAVYj STATUS OF SERVICE RAISED King Edward has retained his title qC Master of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets, whnh he accepted as Prince of- Wales, according V> advice received by the harbourmaster it Auckland, Captain H. H. Sergeant.': At the annual dinner of the Chamber of Shipping of the Uniteci Kingdom, the advice states, the Rt. Hon.- W. Runciman, President of the Board of Trade, announced that ha vas authorised by the King to say that His Majesty had signified his intention of retaining his title of Master of th# Merchant Navy and Fishirg Fleets. "This announcement will ha received with the utmost gratifies lion by the service," said Sir Robert Barton Chadwick, deputy-Master of the Honourabla Company of Master Mariners, who, on behalf of the company, sent the Mowing message to His Majesty's private secretary: "The honour graciously conferred by His Majesty is uhe greatest thing that has ever happened to the men of the merchant navy. In thus raising the status of the service His Majesty grants the desire that has lain deep in the hearts of the officers of the British merchant navy for generations. I ask you with our humble duty to convey to His Majesty the profound gratitude of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners."
