HARBOUR BOARDS

PAYERS OF DUES' POSITION Objection to the principle of eliminating the special representation on harbour boards of payers of dues, is expressed in a letter sent by the executive of the Auckland Chamber of' Commerce to the Associated Chambers. The letter points out that in the Lyttelton Harbour Board Bill it is apparently proposed to eliminate these {special representatives and to rearrange the franchise on a geographical basis. If this principle were extended to other harbour boards in the Dominion, it would deprive the commercial community of very important rights. . t There are at present two members on the Auckland Harbour Board representing payers of dues on ships, and one representing payers of dues other than on ships.
