QUICKER PROMOTION
BRITISH AIR FORCE NEW EXPANSION SCHEME Officers of the British Air Force are to be employed as flight commanders and in other positions of responsibility at an earlier stage in their careers than hitherto. This, the Air Council states, is a wholly exceptional and temporary measure, introduced to modify the conditions of promotion to flightlieutenant. It will reduce to three years the period a flying officer serves when qualifying for time promotion to this rank.
Ln one week recently 30 promotions to squadron leader were announced, bringing that total to 411, or 100 more than the number before the expansion scheme. Bv the end of April 1000 new pilots were to have been trained under the expansion scheme.
Tho inflow will now be nt a so mewl in t greater rate, and, with the completion of now aerodromes and buildings, and the delivery of,new aircraft, new squadron formation will easily keep up to schedule, or rather more than an average of ono a week until the end of next March.
