RICCARTON JUMPERS FIRST-CLASS EXHIBITIONS RASOULI'S GREAT PROMISE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTC'HURCH, Wednesday There was again some interesting jumping at Riccarton to-day. Royal Limond (D. O'Connor) and Rasouli (R. Beale) were companions over two rounds of the steeplechase country, jumping 10 fences. Both did well, Rasouli especially giving a bright display and showing more pace than liis companion. It is evident that the big fences hold no terrors for the Aus-tralian-bred gelding, and his winter prospects are very bright. Pahu (M. Rickerby), Monastic (A. Stove), and Lycidas (W. Rainbow) were associated over eight steeplechase fences. The first-named two jumped exceptionally well until Pahu, after a clean effort over the first of the brush double, evaded the second. Lycidas, who was making only his second attempt over country, was kept a few lengths behind the other pair throughout, and his showing was full of promise. He did not make a serious mistake and showed ability in getting away from his fences. All three were ridden well by their young riders, who have had very little experience, but who should be" proficient, horsemen. Arctic Star (R. Beale), jumped six hurdles in a faultless manner. He was accompanied over the first two and last two by Courtyard, who again shaped satisfactorily.

Royal Limond, Jolly Beggar and Glenavon are not due to leave for the North until May 15. They will go to Te Rapa and not to Te Awamutu, as stated previously. Rasouli and Arctic Star will race at Te Awamutu, after taking part in the Egmont and Marton fixtures.

Thurina is again under the care of Mrs. J. Campbell. He looks very much in the rough, and one of his legs, which was blistered during his holiday, bears a doubtful appearance. It is hoped, however, that he will be able to stand up to another preparation, as steeplechasers of his calibre are not plentiful.

Free Air is expected soon to rejoin the active brigade. She had a recent set-back owing to an escapade on a concrete road, but is considered sound again. In all probability, she will be ridden during the winter by the stable apprentice, M. Kearns. THE FRANKLIN CLUB IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE [FROM OCT. OWN* CORRESPONDENT] POKEKOHE, Wednesday An extensive programme of improvements to the Franklin Racing Club's course at Pukekohe, estimated to cost about £2OOO, has been adopted by the club executive and it is hoped to have the work completed before the next meeting. The creek, which runs through the members' enclosure, is being concreted over. Soil will be placed on top of the covering and grass will be sown, lhe present birdcage will be enlarged, and the present offices will be removed to an excavated site under the hill. Another storey will be added to this building, which will provide a stewards', members' and press stand. The removal of the building from its present position will allow the public to obtain an uninterrupted view of the course from almost any part of the natural grandstand. The totalisator house is to be enlarged and improved, and a new publican's booth will be. constructed. Negotiations have been opened with the Railway Department for the erection of a platform at the railway entrance to the course, and also for the provision or more up-to-date ticket offices.
