LARGE EEL CAUGHT

[BY TELEGRAPH —own correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday Jagged with a hook tied to a stick, a huge eel weighing 261b. was caught in tho heart of New Plymouth to-day. The eel was seen lying in Huatoki Stream by a boy working in Webster Brothers' auction mart, where the stream emerges from the arches under the buildings in Devon Street. The boy quickly secured a large hook, tied it to a stick and hooked the eel behind tho gills. A severe struggle ensued before tho boy landed the fish, which was over sft. long and 17in. in girth.
