NEW BAND TROPHY
SOUTH AUCKLAND UNION [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AKOHA, Sunday Advice has been received from the secretary of the South Auckland Band Union that an anonymous donor has presented to the union a shield for presentation to the band which at each contest scores the highest aggregate of points, both military and musical, in all events. The trophy, which will be known as the Open Championship Shield, is open to all grades and its first award will date from the recent Easter contest at Hamilton. The points scored under the prescribed conditions at Hamilton were as follows: —To Aroha, musical. 337. military 1661, total, 503}; Hamilton. 353. 141 J, 494 Cambridge, 335, 148J, 4833; Pukekohe, 330, 1462, 4763; Tauranga, 344, 132J, 4761: Whakatane, 343, 1221, 465J; Te Awamutu, 328, 133, 461; Waikato Regiment, 333, 118J, 451 J.
The Te Aroha Band in consequence becomes the first holder of the new shield.
