TRAMWAY REVENUE

INCREASE IN WELLINGTON ELECTRICITY RATES REDUCED [bt TELEGRAPH —PRESS association] WELLINGTON, Sunday Tramway revenue for the year ended March 31 was £350,109, compared with £339,729 in the previous year. The credit balance on the tramway operation for the year was £5199. There was a loss of £4407 on bus operation for the year. The electricity department's revenue amounted to £338,374 and expenditure to £294,218, the net result being a credit balance of £43,343. The loss on the City Council's milk department for the year was £23, which was considered very satisfactory in view of the substantial increase in the cost price of milk, due to the higher butter-fat prices which ruled throughout the summer season. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. stated that the satisfactory result regarding the tramways was largely due to better economic conditions, and the great popularity of the 10-rides-for-one-sliilling ticket. The council might in future have to find an extra £20,000 per year, if it was going to maintain the tram services and observe the 40hour week. l'lio council decided to reduce the electricity rates, representing a concession to the consumers of approximately £15,000 for the current year.
