CARNEGIE GRANTS
INSTITUTE AND MUSEUM MR. G. ARCHEY TO GO ABROAD Two grants from the Carnegie Corporation, enabling him to travel, were reported by the director, Mr. Gilbert Archer, at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum yesterday. Commencing on May 4 there would be a conference of museum and art gallery directors in Australia and New Zealand in Melbourne, he said. This was called by the Carnegie Corporation, which was paying all expenses. Mr. J. Barr would be representing the Auckland Art Gallery. Mr. Archey also reported that he had been awarded a visitor's grant which would enable him to travel and inspect the museums of Britain, Western Europe, the United States and Canada. As he wished to be in Auckland for the Science Congress in January, he would not be able to leave until next March, and he expected to return in January, 1938. Mr. Archey was given leave of absence to make use of both grants.
