RICCARTON TRACK KNOCKFIN AND ARGENTIC [BT telegraph OWS CORRESPONDENT] CHBISTCHURCH, Thursday Conditions were again favourable for galloping at Riccarton to-day and there were a few outstanding trials. The outside of the course proper was open and the plough was also in use. On the plough, Wild Chase and Top Notch "strode over six furlongs in 1.16. Fracas and Paper Slipper recorded similar time, all going very well. Sea Fox and Dollar Bill ran a strong six furlongs, coming home the last three in 39 2-ss. McHeath and Dark IJose were given similar work. Brevity covered six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Knockfin, accompanied by Rebel Chief for half a mile, reeled off six furlongs in 1.15 2-5, the last three in 3S 2-ss. Knockfin has been working well of late and is expected to give a good account of herself in the Great Easter Handicap. She would only need to reproduce some of her spring form to he really dangerous. On the course proper, Orris and Sovereign Lady ran six furlongs in 1.18 1-5, and their stable-mate, Chidden, was allotted a nine furlong task, the last mile taking 1.45 2-5. Culotte covered six furlongs in 1.18 1-5.

The best time for six furlongs for the morning was credited to Argentic and Riposte, the former having his head in front at the finish in 1.15 1-5, the last half-mile taking 50s. Argentic probably has never been in better order than at present and provided a suitable horseman can be obtained for him, he should earn distinction at the meeting. Riposte again showed attractive form. He was not paid up for in Monday's event owing to the distance being considered too severe for him in his first effort at the meeting and he will be kept for his six furlong engagement on Tuesday. Custos and Pelmet were companions over about five furlongs, taking 1.2 3-5. They finished together and Custos again went off soundly. Riptide and Execution strode over a mile in 1.44. Final Shot easily accounted for Tunneller in 1.43 1-5 —her best track effort for a long time. Cranford and Concert Pitch galloped seven furlongs in 1.29 3-5. Passenger and Golden Glow occupied 1.4 2-5 for five furlongs. Over tho same journey, Swordstick and Violenta recorded 1.2, the last half-mile taking 50s. The former is a smart galloper. Fair Weather, Epic and Enimeline Girl finished together in 49 2-5s for half a mile. Latitude sprang ahead of Bona Bay and The Surgeon in beginning a mile and a-quarter gallop and maintained bis leading position throughout, beating The Surgeon comfortably, with Rona Bay tailing off. The time was 2.12 2-5, the last mile taking 1.43 3-5. Latitude had a light weight up, but this was his best gallop for some weeks past. The Surgeon's display was quite satisfactory and he could have done better, if ridden out in the straight. Rona Bay also was not seriously ridden over the" last two furlongs. Impersonator ran half a mile along the back in 50 2-ss. Moonbeam and Tout le Monde went away from the nine furlongs post and ran home the last half-mile in 50s. Impossible recorded 50 2-5s for half a mile. On the No. 6 grass, Sir Hugh easily accounted for By-Law over half a mile in 495. Pink Polly ran the same distance in 51s, and Silver Slipper took 1.1 2-5 for five furlongs. Wrexford Bridge and Hounslow jumped two brush hurdles twice, both giving clean displays.
