RISK TO SAVE DOG
Descending into a 50ft. liolo at tho Cockmannings, near Orpington, Kent, recently, a young man risked his lifo to save a stray dog. A man passing by heard tho dog's cries, and polico and firemen went to the scene with ropes. George Carlow, aged 18, who lives a short distance away, volunteered to rescue the animal. In spite of the darkness of the hole and its crumbling sides, Carlow was lowered to tho bottom. Tho dog disappeared into some caves which open into the hole. He eventually persuaded it to come to him, and they were hauled to safety.
