MILK COUNCIL

OPPOSITION TO POLICY POINT CHEVALIER PROTEST STARTING A CAMPAIGN A meeting of protest against the notions of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council was held in Coronation Hnll. Point Chevalier, on Wednesday night. It was stated that the meeting was the commencement of a campaign against? - the council's policy. There was a fair attendance of consumers and a number of producer-vendors also were present. A motion was carried, that "this meeting of residents of Point Chevalier emphatically protests against the tyrannous provisions of the Auckland Metropolitan Act Amendment Act, 1935, which enables tho Milk Council to dispose of our custom as purchasers of milk to any vendor it may select without consulting us, with the result that we thereupon beeomo tied to thnt vendor indefinitely, and it becomes an offence, subject to a penalty of not exceeding £2O, for any other vendor to supply us with milk or cream and also renders us liable for the same offence if Wo counsel or procure another vendor to supply us." It was further resolved that the meeting undertook to work for the repeal of this "unwarranted violation of our rights and liberties." Tho resolution continued: "We call upon the free citizens of this Dominion to join with us in demanding the repeal of the Auckland. Metropolitan Milk Act and its amendments, as unnecessary ami liberty-destroying measures and we demand that the Government, ns tho guardian of our liberties, will immediately remove this foul blot from tlu* statutes of our country."

Mr. T. Stanley, who presided, stnted tliat the meeting had not been called by any particular group, but was the outcome of the resentment of the people at the actions of the council.

Amid numerous interjections Mr. A. Blake, who is organising the consolidations for the Milk Council, gave an explanation of the procedure that had been followed in splitting up the round previously referred to, and maintained there had been no unfairness. He outlined the policy the council was following and stressed that there was no intention of a vendor being changed without the consumer's knowledge.
