MILK DISTRIBUTION
" CHAOTIC STATE" IN WAIHI FARMERS' UNION REQUEST [from our own correspondent] WAIHI. Friday Support of the prevention of overlapping by milk vendors in Waihi so that good milk would bo available at a reasonable price was sought by Mr. W. McAra, representing the Waihi branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, when he waited on the Waihi Borough Council. Mr. McAra said the present method of distribution was in a chaotic stato. He quoted a case in which five sellers operated in one street, the numbur of customers being about five. He asked that in the interests of the industry the council call a meeting of vendors so that the pooling of the product and the zoning of areas might bo arranged. He asked for the council's support because the Farmers' Union hoped that some such scheme would be adopted nationally. The council told Mr. McAra that it was not within its province to take the initial move and, although it sympathised with the principle, it felt the matter was one which more immediately concerned the Farmers' Union, the veil dors of milk and the consumers.
