PROFESSIONAL GOLF

MASTERS' TOURNEY DECIDED HORTON SMITH'S SUCCESS (Received April 7, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 6 Horton Smith won the Masters' Golf Tournament at Augusta with a score of 285. Harry E. Cooper was runner-up with 286, and was followed by Walter Hagen with 296, and W. L. Little with 300. J. H. Kirk wood returned a score of 305 and Bobby Jones' score was 306. Horton Smith, who was born at Springfield, Missouri, in 1908, has had a long series of successes in professional golf. He won the Masters' tournament on a previous occasion in 1934, and represented America against Britain in 1929, 1931 and 1933. He began his career as a champion in 1928 by winning the Oklahoma Open, and in the following year was successful in six important tournaments including the French International Professional. Since then he has had less spectacular success but he has never shown signs of losing his position as one of America's foremost players.
