MOTOR-CAR STRIKES POLE

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED MAN NOT IDENTIFIED A man who had not been definitely identified at a late hour last night was severely injured when a large sedan motor-car he was driving crashed into a telegraph pole near the foot of Cliff Road, St. Heliers Bay, yesterday afternoon. v The car proceeded up the slope of Cliff Road, from the waterfront road, shortly before three o'clock, and, in turning to go down the hill again, it became out of control. It careered down the hill, striking the pole with a severe impact. The car, which was extensively damaged, nearly struck a woman and child. The driver suffered a fracture of the left thigh, and was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance* An operation was performed, his condition being reported as serious last night.
