STOCKS AND SHARES

JHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE better tone in market Inquiry for investment issues was a phade firmer on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, and there was a generally better tone in the market. Bank of New Zealands wore active and prices rose sharply. Dealing opened 9d higher at 46s and passed to 46s 3d, with closing business at 46s 6d, a full pain of Is 3d. The D mortgage issue also met with a better demand, and a parcel changed hands 3d higher at 27s 3d. Support for Commercials was weaker, while other overseas issues had little or no inquiry. Accommodation movements facilitated business in New Zealand Insurance. Biners made the greater concession. and sales at 59s and 59s registered a gain of 4sd. An advance in offers for South British accompanied business at the current rate. Australian industrials were quiet and business was restricted largely to New Zealand issues. Breweries attracted more buying interest and offers improved slightly. New Zealands were done 3d dearer at 52s 3d. Farmers' Trading changed hands 2d higher at fls sd, with more wanted at that price, representing a rise of Id in offers. Auckland Gas were Id dearer in a transfer at 25s lid, but the 15s paid dropped 3d in a sale at 18s 9d. Morris Hedstrom moved up slightly in active trading, while Northern Boiler Mills were unobtainable at 245, at which rate, unchanged, earlier business was done. In the first sale for over a month, P. and O. deferred stock were 2s 6d lower at 23s 6d. CLOSING QUOTATIONS
