NEW FIRE ENGINE

TENDERS TO BE CALLED ASSETS OF THE BOARD ' . The Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board decided yesterday to call for tenders for a new fire engine. Specifica- < tions submitted by the superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, were approved. It •was stated that the new unit would bo of a type similar to the one recently purchased, but it would have a greater >, capacity pump. Reports on tests of tho new engine were stated to be satisfacitory. It was decided to write off £SOOO for depreciation of property and plant before compiling the balance-sheet for ' the current year. The secretary, Mr. P. Butler, said the board had not previously made any provision for depreciation in its accounts. .He pointed out that the valuation of plant, £19,000. was excessive in view of the age and ' service of certain units and equipment. The total assets of the board had been shown last year at over £113,000. He suggested that the board adopt the practice of making allowance for depreciation in its accounts each year. On the suggestion of the chairman, Mr. J. J. Kingston, it was agreed to write off £3OOO in respect of plant and £2OOO on ' property.
