TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME SMALL FIELDS ENGAGED REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS Tho Opunake Raoing Club's meeting will bo held to-day, when tho chiof event will he the Opunake Cup, in which five horses are engaged. The pinglo pool system of hotting will bo in operation. Telegraphing last evening tho Hkrami's Tarauaki correspondent stated that the weather appeared likely to be fine and the course, although on the slow side, quite good. The following horses were likely to be well supported : 12.30—Patiki Hurdles. —Kaola, Ruaform. I.ls—Maiden Race. —Silvanus, International, Glenthawn, 2.0 —Flying Handicap. NEW PLYMOUTH HORSES SPRINT BY LADY KYRA [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday The tracks at New Plymouth were in good order this morning and fast work was accomplished on the trial grass. Host of the local horses are well seasoned with racing and fit for their engagements at Opunake to-morrow. H. Dulieu's quartette, Wahine Nui, Gold Mission, Court Arnia and Joy Box, were let off with easy tasks. Gold Mission shaped nicely in company with .Toy Box over three furlongs on Saturday morning, when Wahine Nui was responsible for a satisfactory half-mile. Glenvane and Red Fox covered a mile in 1.49 1-5. It was not an impressive trial. Lady Kyra, moving evenly all the way, finished a length in front of Courtega at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.4. Lady Kyra's effort was good, while Courtega was not disgraced. * Riding engagements for the Opunake meeting are as follows: —R. W. Savage, Wahine Nui, Court Anna, Joy Box; T. Lorrigan, Lady Kyra; L. HAWERA TRACK WORK AGA KHAN GALLOPS WELL [by telegraph—own correspondent] HAWERA, Tuesday The local horses with engagements at the Opunake meeting to-morrow were allotted their final gallops this morning. The course proper was used for galloping and the going was rajther slow. Showing his usual brilliancy, Notium sprinted three furlongs in 30*s. St. Clara pleased by finishing half a length in front of Carfcx over five furlongs in 1.5. International and Onewhetu were associated over half a mile in 545. Supremo Court, Colenso artd Glcnthawn left the half-mile post from a straggling start and finished in that order with several lengths between them in 51s, a useful gallop. Supreme Court wont well. Master Limond and Corowa left five furlongs behind in 1.6, finishing on terms. Assisted by Waiongona over the last two, Golden Rill ran three furlongs in 37 4-ss. Fersen sprinted three furlongs attractively in 37 3-ss. Aga Khan registered tlio best gallop of the morning to finish three longths in front of Ingenuity over six furlongs in 1.175. Aga Khan went really well. Careful (R. INlilcs) was schooled over a couple of fences, but shaped badly. She almost fell at the* first, Miles making a splendid recovery, and she also hit the second hard. On Monday Friesland and Fersen went well to run five furlongs in 1.5, Friesland having something in reserve at the finish, Silvanus'went attractively over five furlongs in 1.5 3-5.
