RACEHORSES STRAY MISHAP TO ABSENT The steeplechaser Absent met with a serious injury to one of his hind legs at the week-end. He has a penchant for opening gates and was put in an inside paddock with no Rate with his stablemate Illimani in the adjoining paddock, where there is a gate. Absent jumped the dividihg fence and opening gate of Illimani's paddock let that horse and himself out. Illimani showed the homing instinct by arriving uninjured at, the farm of his owner, Mr. J. R. Wallace, at Mangere. Absent was not so fortunate and was found in Campbell Road.. He was too lame to walk and was brought home in a float and has since been undergoing treatment. Park, president of the club. The latest New Zealand-bred winner in West Australia is Neolithic, a three-year-old gelding by Chief Ruler from Pebble I'., by Hock Flint, owned by Mr. L. V. O'Hara and trained by C. F. Barden, who won the Sydney Cup with The Dimmer. Neolithic won at his tenth start in a race, but had previously been placed.
