ELECTING COMMITTEES FIRST FOR SEVEN YEARS NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY Nominations for licensing committees in the various districts throughout New Zealand close at noon to-day. Where there are more nominations than required to lill the five seats on the committees, elections will be held on March 10. They will be the first for seven yea rs. Elections for licensing committees are conducted on the Parliamentary, franchise in all but no-licence districts on the second Tuesday in March following every national licensing poll, and as there was no poll 011 the licensing issue at the 1931 elections the members of committees elected in 1929 have automatically continued in office. Of the four committees in the vicinity of the City, Auckland, comprising the Auckland Central, Auckland West and Auckland East electorates, Parnell, Waitemata and Manukau, sufficient candidates to necessitate an election had been nominated in only one case yesterday afternoon. This was in the Auckland district, where candidates nominated so far are William Wallace, James Grace, William Lang Casey, Edward Le.vdon, Mary Manson Drcaver. Walter Harry Murray, John Raymond Murphy, Kniid Christian Jorgensen and John Raymond Dowd. The four firstnamed arc members of the present committee. 111 the other three districts, where more than five candidates had not been nominated yesterday, the names of the candidates have not yet been announced. It was stated yesterday by Mr. L. Falkner, secretary of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Alliance, that his organisation intended to support several candidates in the Auckland and Parnell districts at least, although it was unlikely that full "tickets" would he put forward. The personnel had not yet been finalised. A "ticket" has also been put forward at some elections by trade interests. It was stated yesterday that the Auckland Provincial Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand had not at present any announcement to make on the matter.
