COLLAPSE IN CAR
DRIVER FOUND DEAD RESIDENT OF MOUNT EDEN VEHICLE STANDING ON ROAD Clnrl in full evening-dross, Mr. Adam Forrest Hope Paterson, aged 28, single, of Mount Eden, was found dead at the wheel of a parked motor-car in Cnrrington Road, near the junction of Third Avenue, Point Chevalier, at 10.40 last night. No marks of violence were found by a doctor, who was summoned, and it is thought likely that death was due to heart, failure. An inquiry was commenced by the police. The parked car was seen by a motorist at 10.15, but it was not until nearly half an hour later that a pedestrian noticed that something was amiss. When the motor-car was examined, the engine was found to have been switched off, but the hand-brake had not been applied. Masonic regalia was in the back seat of the car. The manner in which the motor-car, a lnrge closed model, was parked, attracted the attention of a passer-by, Mr. A. C. Gallagher, of 35 Gladstone Road, Mount Albert, about 10,40. He noticed that the car, which was facing Mount Albert, had been stopped well out from the kerb and that all the lights had been left burning. On investigating, Mr. Gallagher saw that the only occupant had apparently collapsed at tho wheel. The motor-car was standing a short distance from the home of Dr. J. G. D. Macky, assistant medical officer at tho Mental Hospital, who was summoned by Mr. Gallagher. Dr. Macky made an examination and stated that Mr. Paterson was dead, possibly as a result of a heart attack which had given him just sufficient time to stop the car.
