NAZIS AND THE CHURCH

ARRESTS OF CATHOLICS NO ACTIVE PROTEST MADE COLOGNE. Feb. 23 A letter from the Vicar-General, which, on the order of the Archbishop, was read in all Catholic churches, indicated that no active protest is to be made by the Church against the recent Nazi arrests of officials of the Catholic youth organisations. The letter says it is hoped the public will learn the full circumstances from the Court proceedings, and adds that whatever the verdict the fact remains that the organisations have for three years been in the forefront against Communism and Marxism and have done everything to educate German youth to be good citizens. Another letter from the Archbishop, read in some churches, asked Catholic parents firmly to resist the new State schools, in which religion will no longer occupy the primary position.
