SUCCESS OF LAGOON WHIRLING TAKES THE SPRINT VICTORY FOR SIRONA LARGE TOTALISATOR INCREASE Fine weather attracted a large attendance to To Rnpa yesterday for tho conclusion of the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting, and there was some very interesting contests even though the fields wcro not as largo as on the first day, and .tho course was still a trifle soft. Most of tho winners wero well supported, and tho only real surprise was'tho victory of Lagoon in tho Vercoe Handicap, although Gay Defence and Whirling were only moderately fancied in the races they won. Lagoon was one of the least supported of tho field in the chief event, and she returned double figures on tho straightout machine. Whirling's feat in defeating tho open sprinters in tho Flying Handicap was bis best effort to date, and ho fought on in the gnmest possible fashion at the finish after being one of tho leaders throughout. The top-weight Soloist recorded a meritorious performance in successfully carrying 11.11 in the Raglan Hurdles, in which he proved a class above tho others. The totalisator handled £22,964 10s, compared with £16.687 10s on the second day last year, an increase of £6277. The investments for the meeting amounted to £51,791, against £39,085 last year, an increase of £12,706. Results:— OHINEWAI HANDICAP, Of £l5O and sweepstake of £3 each; G fur. I—2—CAPPY, Mrs. F. M.
