MANY LOCAL BODIES
CO-ORDINATION INTENDED "HEMMED IN BY BOARDS" [bt telegbaph—own correspondknt] "WELLINGTON. Monday "I feel like the fly in the spider's web," said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, to-day to a deputation from the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand which suggested that certain outside advice was essential to the smooth working of the department. "I can get nowhere in particular so long as I am hemmed in with this network of local bodies from one end of the country to the other," continued the Minister. "The problem has got to be faced. It has been side-stepped so long that it is growing worse as the days go by. Power boards, river boards, all classes of boards—boards to the right of us, boards to the left of us, boards all around us." Mr. S. A. Wiren, a member of the deputation: You need not talk to a lawyer about it. Mr. Parry: I thought it would be as well to mention it. You will recognise that I am not in favour of creating more boards. I tell you that. Mr. Wiren: Our idea was to do away with some. Mr. Parry: Before long the department proposes to take a forward step in bringing about the co-ordination of local bodies in this country. It has to be faced, and it will bo done.
