TERRIFIC STORM
QUEENSLAND AREAS ENORMOUS DAMAGE DONE (Received February 24, 12.45 a.m.) BRISBANE, Feb. 23 Several persons were injured, one seriously, and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to houses and crops by a terrific storm which swept a narrow strip of the south coast district of Queensland on Saturday night. A train from Southport to Brisbane followed in the wake of the storm and one and a-half hours were occupied in travelling two miles. Passengers had to alight and assist the train crew in removing scores of heavy tree limbs from the track. At Loganlea the railway station was reduced to matchwood and a house opposite was carried bodily for about 60yds. and deposited near the railway where the occupants were found among the wreckage and taken to hospital. Brisbane City escaped the storm but the outlying suburbs suffered. Numbers of churches were seriously damaged in various districts.
