THE BRITISH BUDGET
SURPLUS ANTICIPATED REVENUE EXCEEDS ESTIMATES (Received February 23, 5.5 p.m.) Britipli Wireless RUOBY, Feb. 22 The newspapers are beginning to speculate on tho outcome of tho financial year which has less than six weeks to run. In spito of supplementary estimates amounting to over £20,000,000, it is generally believed that a Budget surplus of several million pounds is assured. This result will have been achieved partly by revenue yields somewhat in excess of the estimates of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, and partly by savings on estimated expenditure.
Account is taken in these optimistic forecasts of a number of supplementary estimates, amounting to several million pounds, yet to be published. The largest will bo in respect of tho Post Office.
