TE PUKE SHOW

FINE STOCK DISPLAY INCREASE IN ENTRIES GATE-TAKINGS IMPROVE [from our own correspondent] TE PUKE, Saturday The Te Puke Agricultural and Pastoral Association held its 35th annual show on Friday. Very heavy rain fell early in the morning and continued until 8.30, when it cleared and remained fine for the rest of the day. Entries in all classes showed substantial increases and established a new record. The gate-takings also disclosed an improvement of £22. Thirteen horses competed in the champion hunter event, which carried the most valuable show ring prize of the day. Black Brothers' Tarzan was a popular winner, while tho second horse, Miss Wiggins' Rabbi and the third horse, Mr. C. Duncan's Pax, also jumped well. Miss Joy, winner of the chief prize for hunters at the Tauranga Show, was unplaced, owing to an unlucky fall at the first hurdle. Jerseys and Friesians were most prominent in the cattle classes. The quality and quantity of the pedigree Jerseys, particularly, was commented on most favourably bv the judge, Mr. G. Buchanan, of Paeroa. Milking Shorthorns were also exhibited in fair numbers. Draught horses of fine quality were shown, and there was keen competition in all classes, the judge, Mr. P. McNanghton, of Morrinsville, saying the standard was remarkably high. Pigs, fat' cattle and slieep exhibits were an improvement on other years, and the classes for bacon pigs attracted the keenest competition from the local pig raisers.
