YACHTING

COMBINED REGATTAS RICHMOND AND PONSONBY BIG MUSTER OF BOATS The Richmond and Ponsonby Cruising Chilis held a combined regatta on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. The auxiliary vessel Motiti, owned by Messrs. A. G. Frankham and Company, was flagship and was moored off Ponsonby wharf, all races starting and finishing between the wharf and the flagship. There was a fresh breeze from the north-east, which gave the boats a good test on all points of inp;Nearly 100 boats took part in the racing a nd somis very close finishes were recorded. The arrangements for the regatta were carried en' bv the Richmond Club, whoso officials ulso controlled the racing. The flagship warn well patronised by members and visitors, including representatives from all the local yacht clubs, and also Mr. L. Jones,\ol: the Otago Yacht and Motor-Boat tea was provided and was much appreciated. 11 r. G. F. Bellve, commodore of the Richmond Club, and Mr. J. Worthington, commodore of tho Ponsonby Club, thanked all those who had helped to make tlie combined regatta a success and also Messrs. Frankham and Company for the use of the flagship, under Captain J McMillan. Considerable interest was taken in the race for 22ft. mullet boats, which was keenly fought out between Valeria and Tamarika, the former beating her rival across the finishing line by 12s. Tho winner in both clubs was Waialae. THE MULLET BOATS Classes H and I were sent away first and when the last ting fell Bltiestreak crossed the line just ahead <x c . Omntere, Starlight and Marere; then followed Spray and Arawa. the last-nnm"d being Um late. Omatere went into the lead on the beat down the harbour and Starlight moved up into second place. Salome carrying her new gatf mainsa.il, led Vajnp by over a minute on the completion of the first round with Treasure holding third position, 30 eeconds astern of Vamp. In the final round both Vamp and Treasure passed Salome.
