It as been disclosed in authoritative cW?6#-»! that the Mayors of the metropolitan centres and those boroughs which repre sent the old provincial capitals agree that the celebration of the centenary should be observed in a national manner in .Wellington. It is understood that the Government, which is confident of retaining administrative power for two threeyearly terms of Parliament at least, 18 discussing tentatively, the granting o not less than £IOO,OOO as a State contribution toward the celebrations. 1 matter will be discussed at the con er ence of Mayors with the Minister o Internal Affairs, Hon. W. K._ PaW. early in March, when it is anticipated the groundwork of a plan for a nationa celebration will be surveyed.
