THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Dig, trench and manure all vacant ground. It is a good plan to trench a portion of the garden each year. Lift and store potatoes. Do not leave the tubers exposed at night or the potato moth will lay its eggs in the eyes. The grubs will spoil the tubers in store. Keep up the supply of lettuca by sowing and planting at frequent intervals. Strawberry bed. no Io M er required .hould be well trenched .nd manured in re.d.ne.. (or other crops. Sow another batch of short carrots for supplies » winter and early spring. Earth up advancing crops of celery and leeks, choosing dry weather for the operation. Give liquid manure to marrow, and pumpkins to increase the size of the fruits.
