THE FLOWER GARDEN

Continue the planting of the earliest-flowering bulbs. Prepare the ground well for the later plantings. Plant out Iceland poppies for the earliest flowers, and sow more seed for later supplies. Sow hardy annuals in the borders for spring blooming. Clarkias, godetias and calendulas are all suitable. Polyanthus, primroses and violas may all bo divided and planted in their flowering quarters. Cuttings of soft-wooded subjects for bedding purposes can be inserted for next season's supplies. Prepare the land for sowing new lawns during the next few weeks. Autumn-flowering subjects, such as Michaelmas daisies, should be securely staked against damage by wind and rain. Disbud dahlias and chrysanthemums, and spray with arsenate of lead for caterpillar.
