BOOKMAKING CHARGE

OFFENCE ON RACECOURSE FINE OF £5 INFLICTED A charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker was preferred against Lawrence Taylor, aged 55, married, who appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. It was alleged that Taylor took bets at the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting at Ellerslie on January 29. Charles Cullen, racecourse inspector, and Detective Davis, said accused admitted taking small beta up to 2s 6d with friends. Ho said he had not taken more than 15s on each race. A fine of £5 was imposed, with costs.
