THEFT FROM A SHOP TWO WOMEN CONVICTED In the Police Court yesterday before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., Ivy B. O'Connell pleaded guilty to stealing a singlet, valued at 3s 3d, from a city shop on January 21. On the same charge her mother, Lucille Mary O'Connell,- pleaded not guilty. Sub-Inspector Fox said the accused, who were accompanied by a third worrfan, came under the notice of a member of the staff. They were taken to the office, where the singlet, was found in Mrs. O'Conuell's bag. The Magistrate convicted both accused, and they were remanded in custody until to-day for a report from the probation officer.
For failing to produce a ticket when requested by the guard on a railway journey between Auckland and Southdown on November 11, Rangi Edwards was lined £l. A charge of travelling when he had not previously paid a fare was withdrawn.
A married woman, Annie Draper, was charged with stealing plants, valued at 4s, the property of Muriel Martin, of East Street, Newton.
Sub-Inspector Fox said the plants were taken from Mrs. Martin's front garden, the offence having been noticed by neighbours. When accused was accosted by Constable Wilson she denied guilt, but later admitted it. For accused, Mr. Sullivan said the offence was committed on the spur of the moment.
Accused was fined £2 and ordered to make restitution of the plants.
