CITIZENS' TRIBUTE
LATE ME. ENTEICAN IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL ALL SECTIONS REPRESENTED A very large gathering of citizens, including representatives of local bodies, public organisations and the commercial community, attended the funeral of the late Mr. A. J. Entrican, until lately Deputy-Mayor of Auckland, which took place at Waikaraka Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The size of the assemblage, which numbered several hundred, testified to the regard which Air. Entrican had won by his high character anil fine record of devoted public service during more than half a century. The funeral procession was one of the longest seen in Auckland for many months, and two motor-cars were required to carry tho wreaths sent by public bodies, business houses in all parts of the Auckland Province and privato friends. Councillors as Bearers The service of committal was conducted by the moderator of the Auckland Presbytery, tho Rev. W. Bower Black, and the Rev. 11. Ferguson Fish, minister of St. James' Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Entrican had been an elder and Sunday school superintendent for more than 40 years. The Rev. R. L. Walker, a former minister of tho church, assisted at a service held earlier at Mr. Entrican's house in Remuera Road. Tho whole staff of A. J. Entrican, Sims and Company, attended the funeral and six of the older employees carried tho coffin from the house. The bearers at the cemetery were the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. B. Martin, the Hon. T. Bloodworth, M.L.C., Mr. E. J. Phelan and Mr. J. L. Coakley, city councillors; the town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham, and tho city treasurer, Mr. A. Messer.
The principal mourners were Mr. Entrican's son, Mr. R. G. Entrican, and two grandsons; Mr. J. C. Entrican and the Rev. S. W. Entrican. brothers, and Miss J. Entrican (Sister Grace) and Mrs. J. Ramsay, sisters. Representative Attendance
The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, was present as chief representative of the citizens. With him, in addition to the councillors and city officials already mentioned, were Miss •E. Melville, Messrs. H. P. Burton, A. Rosser, J. Sayegh and J. S. Stewart, councillors; the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, and the city valuer, Mr. P. F. Notlev. Mr. G. W. Hutchison, ex-Mayor, and several ex-councillors, including Messrs. G. Ashley, G. Knight, S. Takle, D. Donaldson and G. W. Murray, also attended. Among other bodies represented were:— Auckland Harbour Board: Mr. C. G. Macindoe, chairman; Mr. D. Holtlerness, acting-superintendent; Mr. W. Brook Smith, acting-secretary, and Mr. C. F. Garrett, treasurer. Mr. T. B. Clay, a former chairman, and Mr. H. B. Burnett, were also present. A. J. Entrican, Sims and CompanvMr. R. J. Sims, Mr. J. 0. Sims, Mr. A. G. Maughan and Mr. J. Wreaths were sent by many of the bodies mentioned, and also by the session and managers of St. James' Church, the minister and members of the church, the Auckland Municipal Officers' Social Club, the officers and men of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade, the Auckland Hospital Board and the Prince Albert Collego Old Boys' Association.
