DWELLING BURNED
FIRE NEAR WHANGAREI [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday A fire last night destroyed the fiveroomed residence of Mr. H. W. K. Davis, "Castle Rock," Taurikura, 16 miles from Whangarei. It was one of the oldest houses in the North, having been built by the early pioneers. Mrs. Davis and her family were away on holiday and Mr. Davis, who was alone in the building, was awakened at about 11 o'clock by the noise of the firo. Nothing was saved. The house was insured for £4OO with the South British Insurance Company, Limited. The contents were also insured.
