Waikato Hack Cup.—Doinbey, 21b., making 8.0. President's Handicap. Refresher, 41b., making 9.6. Mazir was withdrawn from the Storey Memorial Handicap at 2.50 p.m. yesterday. KING'S CUP CONTEST RACING CLUB'S DIFFICULTY Difficulties havo arisen for the South Australian Jockey Club, as it was the turn of the club to run the King's Cup this year, which was to have been the feature of the Adelaide Cup meeting in May. The late King presented a gold cup each year, to bo run in rotation in all the States, the first of the series having been that won by Spear Maiden at Flemington in 1927. "Whether the King's Cup will lapse with the death of tho donor or whether King Edward VIII, will desiro its continuance is not known, and until that is known tho raco will havo to bo held in abeyance. As full Court mourning will not terminate until July 20, it is unlikely that a King's Cup will bo run during that period, but should King Edward VIII. wish the race to go on it could bo made part of tho South Australian centenary celebrations later 111 the year, possibly at tho spring meeting. Lord Derby intended being represented in the race, and, according to advices received in Adelaide in a private letter, it was his 'intention to send out Fairhaven to represent him. Fairhaven, who is now a four-year-old, was a good performer in England last season, when 110 won tho Payne Stakes at Newmarket Ho is by Fairway (son of Phalaris) from Drift, by Swynford from Santa Cruz, by Neil Gow from Santa Brigida, by St. Simon Ft is to be hoped His Majesty will express a wish for tho raco to bo co.ntinued, as the King's Cup lias bccomo a race dear to tho hearts of Australians and tho trophy is tho most coveted of all Australian cups HORSES FROM AUSTRALIA Tho two-year-old colt liaepata, by Brazen— J Capsina, arrived in Auckland by tho Monowai yesterday and has entered I?. S. Bagby's stable at Ellcrslie. Gay Seton, who has been racing in Australia, also returned by the same steamer.
