BLOWN FROM BICYCLE
SMALL BOY INJURED SEVERAL NARROW ESCAPES A boy was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and several other people were slightly injured as a result of mishaps during the gale yesterday. Many others narrowly escaped being struck by flying debris. The boy, Desmond Frank Rastrick, aged 12, of 873 New North Road, Mount Albert, was blown from his bicycle while riding on the main road near his home yesterday morning. His left arm was broken, and he also suffered slighs concussion. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. A number of people suffered minor cuts and abrasions as a result of falls. A massive section of a wood an.' iron fence missed a member of the Newmarket police station staff by inches when it was carried across Re nuera Road. It fell with a crash in a property next door.
A child was struck by the branches of an Italian oak, which fell across a path in Quadrant Road, Onehunga. He escaped with scratches and a severe fright. The top of a giant Norfolk pine crashed across Manukau Road at Creenwood's Corner and fell whe_re a group of people had been standing i* few minutes earjier. Motorists shared in narorw escapes. Several cases were reported of cars being driven away from parking places just in time to avoid being struck by trees or falling earth.
