TRAIN DERAILED
PASSENGERS INJURED MISHAP NEAR SHANNON , DAMAGE IN WELLINGTON LAID-UP STEAMER ASHORE [BY TKLEGBAI'H —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Sunday It is reported from Shannon that two carriages and a guard's van on a train from Palmerston North to Wellington were overturned near Malerua station. Several passengers wero injured, one child, it is thought, seriously. The injured persons received attention from the train staff and later were taken into Shannon. The gale continued to rage this morning. Part of the Te Aro oaths was swept away. The steamer John, of 339 ton's, which was laid up at anchor off Kaiwara, broke from her mooring:) and was driven ashore near Ngahaurmga. The ship's watchman came ashore on a line. The vessel is not being salvaged until the weather abates.
