EIGHT-STOREY BUILDING addition to courtville MODERN IDEAS EMBODIED The final touches were added yesterday to the eight-storey block of flats in Eden Street, City, which, begun over a year ago, are to form an addition to the existing Courtville group. The building, which contains 54 flats, incorporates all the latest ideas in modern Hat construction, and cost in the vicinity of £55,000, exclusive of the furnishings. Jt will be ready for occupation on Monday. The building is of reinforced concrete throughout, and in addition to having sound-proof inner and outer walls is earthquake and fire-resisting. All tho fiats have wooden floors laid over tho concrete. Twenty-six of the flats are of the three-room typo, containing a living room and two bedrooms, the remaining 28 having a living room and one bedroom. Each flat is self-con-tained, with a well-appointed kitchenette fitted with the latest type electric stove and refrigerator, cabinets and shelves, and an attractive bathroom. Every flat has its own separate hot water service, and the building will bo heated throughout from a central plant. The extorior of tho building is finished in Portland cement, with tho exception of the frontage to Eden Street, where a coloured cement has been used to imitate Sydney freestone. Imposing columns stand on either side of the spacious front entrance, while a canopy is suspended above. Inside this entrance is an extensive lounge leading to the marble stairway and lift. In addition to tho 51 flats the building also contains a largo social room, measuring 65ft. by 22ft. Tho property extends through to Eden Crescent, from which there will bo access to the building through an attractive garden laid out in formal design on an area 100 ft. square. There are a number of garages on tho edge of this area, with a drive-in from Eden Crescent, and theso will be available to occupiers of the flats. The building has been constructed for Courtville, Limited, by tho Fletcher Construction Company, Limited. Mr. A. Sinclair O'Connor was the architect.
