Friday The owner of the Golden Belt minse nt Neavesville, Mr. Martin Grace, who has had a good run of gold from the mine in recent months, to-day reports that for 25 loads of quartz puts through the battery, 94Joz. of melttxi gold were obtained, t the estimated value being about £430. The scene of the find is below the Neavesville Hotel, about half-way down to the battery, and under an outcrop of rock. Most of the ore which was crushed at the Golden Belt battery years ago was obtained from drives higher up than this. The find seems to be more than a pocket, as the values are fairlv consistent in the ore. BIG RIVER OPERATIONS Big River Gold Mines, Limited (Reefton), reports that Mr. Thomas Thomson, who Has been mine manager for the last two years, has resigned. Mr. F. C. Calvert, lately in charge of Mahakipawa goldfields, has been appointed in his stead. All developmental and prospecting operations are being stopped, and work is being concentrated on completing the reconditioning of the main shaft down to No. 5 level, preparatory to driving No. 5 level out east to intercept the downward continuation of the line of reef which has been proved in No. 4 level. Shaft reconditioning operations are being ' pushed forward with all possible speed, work being carried out during 24 hour# daily.
