AUSTRALIANS AND MUSIC
Sir, —As far as I can judge after many years of experience, Australians as a whole show the greatest admiration and friendship for New Zealanders; yet over here wo tolerato again and again the shallow flattery of travelling musicians and lecturers at the expense of Australia. Irritable criticism of the Aussies by such people is often too superfieffil and too much coloured by financial disappointment to be genuine. The worst I have heard of late is that of Father Schnitt, who tells us we are not like tho lazy, unmusical Australians; though according to him Christchurch people are. I do not know what Australia has done to offend Father. Schnitt, but his criticism is grossly' unfair. Australia has its lazybones and unmusical people, just as New Zealand has, but as a people they are indeed great workers, in conditions far more trying than here, and they do love music. J. C- Fussell.
