THIS WEEK'S ISSUE READING FOR THE HOLIDAYS SPORTS AND PASTIMES The fiction and magazine articles in this week's issue of The Weekly News, on sale to-day, offer a solution of the problem of convenient light reading for the holidays. In all sections this Christmas need is catered for. In addition, Mr. A. R. Kingsford tells another of his war flying stories, and Peter Fleming narrates the adventures on another section of l).is journey from Peking to India through hidden Asia. The bright picture section Rpens with a topical frontispiece of Father Christmas. Other photographic subjects arc the round of school prize-givings, tho Governor-General's visit to Taranaki, and tho dairying industry in the Waikato. For tennis players and followers of the game, two articles which should be studied have been contributed by Mr. E. L. Bartleet and Miss Dulcie Nicholls. Mr. Bartleet offers a scheme for tho raising of the standard of tennis in New Zealand, and Miss Nicholls gives an account, written from Melbourne, of the tennis she has seen in the course of her visits to Australia. In his exclusive article this week, Mr. Ces Dacre, New Zealand and Gloucestershire cricketer, discusses the slection of the Auckland Plunket Shield team and notes 'some respects in which it might have been improved. Mr. Alex. Murray, who was a member of the professional golf team which played the Australian team, bound for America last week, describes the styles of the Australian champions. English stock breeders have criticised the New Zealand embargo on the importation of stud animals, and have pointed out that at tho same time New Zealand is buying high-priced stud beasts from America. An interesting and well-argued article in the farm section explains why this is so, and alleges that Britain has lost her leadership in-stud stock breeding. On another page tho suitability of the open air method of raising pigs is discussed with special reference to New Zealand.
