QUEEN CARNIVAL

THE CROWNING CEREMONY With much pomp and ceremony Miss Mabel Ford was crowned Queen of the Carnival at the Princess Theatre, ICaitaia, tho coronation ceremony being held on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The stage had been specially prepared and decorated for the occasion by Mrs. J. N. Mooro and Miss E. Geard. Special lighting effects set off tho elaborate costuming of the queen and her retinue, as they proceeded through the theatre and on to tho stage to the accompaniment of appropriate music. The trumpeters, Miss A. Gallagher and Miss C. Coulter, preceded tho procession, and wore followed by the heralds, Miss D. Beard and Miss M. Flic key, after whom came Princess Dolly and her attendants. Miss F. Baker (page), and Miss D. Puckey (maid of honour); the lord high chamberlain, Mr. H. Kirtlan; Princess Avery and her attendants, Miss Z. Whito and Mios Joy Hamilton; the bearer of tho orb, Mr. D. Hudson; Princess Mercia and her attendants, Miss E. Matthews and Miss E. Mooney; tho bearer of the sword, Miss A. Matthews; Princess Betty and her attendants, Mrs. I. J. Berghan and Miss B. Thornell; the bearer of the crown. Miss H. Waite; the flower girls, Olga and Mary Devich; Princess Mabel, Miss Z. Berghan and Miss L. Ford (pages), and Miss A. Henehan (maid of honour); the mistress of the robes. Miss J Osborne; tho bearer of the sceptre, Mr I. Wilson; and tho lord high chancellor, Dr. J. Rule. The coronation ceremony was performed by the lord high chancellor. t For their valorous efforts during the carnival tho following were presented to the queen: —Mrs. H. A. Timbers and Messrs. N. McDonald, J. Brewer, W. Dale, N. L. Gurr, B. White, H. McDonald. Mr. T. H. Kenney controlled tho organisation of the coronation and Mr. W. R. Langley arranged the musical part of tho programme.
