MUSIC LOVERS' CLUB
The monthly meeting of the Music Lovers' Club was held in the rooms of tho Overseas League last evening and was largely attended by members and friends. The proceedings opened with a talk by the president, Mr. Walter Impett, on the songs of Sir Frederick Cowen, Britain's oldest living composer, whoso work is held in affectionate regard. In all, he composed some 200 songs, many of which are written on classic lines, and earned for the composer tho title of "The Engjlish Schubert." Many of the lessor known songs of Sir Frederic Cowen were artistically rendered by Mrs. Norman Dimery, Miss Anne Carmichael, Miss Alice Harrison, Mr. Harold Dixey, Mr. Quintin Robinson and Mr. Wilfred Robbins. After a short interval the following miscellaneous programme was presented: —Pianoforte solos, •"Impromptu in F Sharp" (Chopin) and "Novellette in E" (Schumann), played by Mrs. P. Sholto Smith; songs, "Ynng Yang" and "The Lament of Isis" (Bantock), by Miss Margot Anderson; violin solos, "Adagio" and "Allegro" from Sonata No. 11 (Corelli), and "Meditation" from "Thais" (Massenet), played by Mr. Norman Dimery; excerpts from "La Boheme" (Puccini), " Musetta's Song " and 'The Bonnet Song'," by Miss Winifred Hill; French songs, "Ouvro tes youx Blous" (Massenet) and "Villannelle" (Chammade), by Miss Joan Airey; vocal trios, "Venetian Boat Song" and "Awake, tho Morning's Hero" (.Mendelssohn), by tho Misses Winifred Hill, Fiileen Yeoman and Alice Harrison, The accompanists wero Mrs. Wilfred Robbins, Mrs. P. Sholto Smith, Miss Madge Higgins, Miss Molley Cater and Mr. Walter Impett.
