CRICKET CONTROL
ASSOCIATIONS CONFER AUCKLAND PROPOSALS LOST [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHIIISTCHUKCH. Thursday Tho administration of cricket was discussed to-day, when delegates from eighteen associations met tho members of tho management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council at the biennial conference. Mr. J. M. Fraser, Otago, presided. Mr. A. T. Donnelly, chairman of tho management committee, said the conference had great valuo in bringing together delegates so that they could discuss measures for tho good of the game. Tho opinion of one major association representative that the conference was a waste of time was not shared generally. Tho conference decided on an alteration in the rules to provide that when application for admission was made by a minor association notico should be given to the major association whoso territory was concerned. A proposal that vice-presidents of associations should be included in delegates to tho council was rejected, on the ground that it would interfere with, tho balance of representation. Although the confcrcnco expressed disapproval of a proposal by tho Auckland Association that the voting power of each of the two delegates from each major association should ho increased from two to three, tho proposal. will again come before the council at tho annual meeting tomorrow evening. With one exception the minor associations, which have one vote each, wero against tho ation, and as a three-fifths majority is necessary to alter the rules, it is unlikely that the 'proposal will be carried. Auckland's proposal to fix tho number of selectors of New Zealand cricket teams at four, ono from each major association, instead of allowing tho management committee a freo hand in the appointment of a selector, or selectors, did not find support, and the motion was lost by a considerable majority. Several proposed changes in the Hawke Cup rules were discussed. Tt was decided to delete the clause in the rules providing for a birth qualification for players. It was argued that it win not desirahlo that Pluuket Shield players should piny in tho Hawke Cup competition on a birth qualification. The proposal to exclude overseas professionals from Hawke- Cup matches was rejected. The suggested reversion to the practice ef plnying Hawke Cup matches to a finish without a time limit was not Accepted.
