ATHLETIC DIFFERENCE
DELEGATES AND CENTRE DECISION TO RESIGN [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Thursday Instructions received by them from the Auckland Centre have led Mr. L. A. Tracy and Mr. W. F. Ingram to decide to resign from the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, as the representatives of that centre. They were instructed by the Auckland Centre to nominate Mr. J. P. Ka la uglier, of Auckland, as president. Mr. Tracy says he wrote to the Auckland Centre stating that ho did not think the delegates should bo a mere voting machine, but that they should be allowed to weigh the "pros and cons" of any matters submitted to tho meeting. A reply by night telegram stated that while agreeing with the general principle of not tying the hands of delegates the centre still insisted on Mr. Kalaugher's nomination, and support of him as president. " I think tho whole thing is tho result of a. misunderstanding and that it can bo straightened out quite easily," said Mr. H. L. Towers, president of the Auckland Centre, when tho matter was referred to him last evening. He stated that tho matter was purely a question of principle. Jt was bv no means the policy of the Auckland Centre to biud its delegates hand and foot, but on just this one point, the nomination of Mr. Kalaugher for the position of president, the centre had desired that tho delegates should move in accordance with its wishes. Ho was sure that when correspondence on tho subject had been received, the whole question would bo settled amicably.
