MINISTER'S DECISION SUM OF £l9 pROMISED EQUAL TO DUTY AND SALES TAX A grant of £l9 to offset the cost of tho Customs duty and sales tax on the surf-boat recently imported from Sydney by the Piha Surf Life-Saving Club has been promised by tho Minister of Customs, Mr. Coates, in response to representations. In a telegram received yesterday by Mr. W. P. Endoan, Mr. Coates stated lie was arranging for upproval of a grant of £lO to tho club. Ho understood that amount was sufficient to cover duty and sales tax on tho surf-boat. " The grant is most wolcomo and will enable the club to commence tho erection of a. boathouse at Piha to accommodate tho craft'," said tho secretary of tho club, Mr. C. 11. Holt, in expressing gratification at tho action of Mr. Coates. " Until tho boathouso, which will cost £75, is erected, it will not bo possible to take tho surf-boat, which is at present at tho Auckland Rowing Club's shed at Mechanics Bay, to Piha. To enablo tho larger beach at Piha to bo patrolled as well as tho smaller beach when there are large crowds swimming, another reel, costing £l3, is also necessary."
