Mrs. F. D. Davys, of Wellington, is at tho Hotel Cargen.

The Misses G. and M. Hancock, of Paihia, are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. Hugh Wright, 51 Remuera Road, has returned from a visit to Hawke's Bay. Miss F. E. Dallas, of Christcliurcli, is visiting • Auckland and is at the Station Hotel. Mrs. A. Hvder (Wellington), and Miss A. M Righetti (Sydney), are at tho Grand Hotel. Miss Joan Sladden, of Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs. L. C. Sladden, at New Plymouth. Mrs. A. McCarthy, of Invercargill, is visiting Auckland and is the guest of Mrs. T. McNab, of Mount Eden. Miss Sylvia Stockley, of Great South Road, will leave by the Wanganella on Friday to spend a holiday in Sydney. Mrs. A. I. Johns, Bassett Road, Remuera, will leave by the Wanganella on Friday for Sydney, en route to Melbourne. Mrs. G. A. Nicholls and Miss A. L. Rees, of Gisborne, are visiting Christchurch ?or the Dominion conference of the Victoria League. They are tho guests of Lady Aclaud. The Rev. J. L. Gray and Mrs. Gray, at present on furlough in New Zealand, from tho Punjab, India, continue to make rapid progress after their unfortunate motoring accident of some months ago. Their departuro for India has been postponed until next month, when they plan to leave with their youngest son and baby daughter. Their two older boys are staying behind in New Zealand. Mr. Gray is stationed at the Presbyterian mission in the Punjab.

An enjoyable afternoon was spent by members and friends of the Kohimarama-Mission Bay Progressive League in the Selwyn Avenue Hall on Monday. Mrs. G. Grant presided. An instructive demonstration on the making and use of a hay-box cooker was given by Mrs. J. Hubber, who displayed a dinner, which had been cooked in the hay-box. A short sketch produced and played by Mesdames Webster, Herrick, Grant and Watkin was well received. Mesdames Webster and Herrick also contributed a duet. Mrs. V. Hooj)er was the accompanist and she also played several pianoforte solos.

The annual meeting Huntly High School Old Pupils' Association was presided over by the retiring president, Mr. R. A. Wilcox. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. F. McDonald; president, Mr. T. A. Shaw; vice-presidents, Mrs. G. Ra.vner and Mr. W. J. Shaw; secretaries, Miss S. Bryant and Mr. J. Douglas; treasurer, Mr. W. J. Shaw; auditor, Mr. B. Housley; general committee, Mrs. G. Raynor, the Misses J. Chisholm and 0. Johnstone, and Messrs. T. Dick, H. Tither and W. J. Shaw : special committee, the Misses E. Heffron, G. Russell and J. Chisholm, Mrs. G. Rayner and Messrs. T. Dick, T. L. Thomas and L. S. Northmore.

The members of the' teaching staff and committee of the Huntly District High School met to bid farewell to Miss M. A. Grindrod, who has left on transfer to Bayfield School, Herne Bay. Miss Grindrod had been on the Huntly District High School staff for six and a-half years. In making Miss Grindrod a presentation of a pair of book-ends in pale pink alabaster, on whidi were mounted Dresden china figures, Mr. Lightbourne, the headmaster, expressed regret at her departure. A presentation of a cut glass vase was made by Mr. W. Sillick, chairman of the school committee. while the pupils in Miss Grind.rod's class presented her with a beautiful bouquet of roses and a crystal vase.

The Waiheke Returned Soldiers' Club held its final five hundred card tournament and dance of the winter season on Saturday night in the Ostend Public Hall. Attractive decorations brightened the hall, where over 100 people from various parts of the island spent a most enjoyable time. Streamers, confetti, fancy paper hats and balloons were distributed during the evening, adding to the brightness of the scene. Card winners were Mrs. C. S. Butler, jun. (Ostend), Mr. and Mrs. J. Young; aggregate for the season, Mrs. McLean (Palm Beach), 49, and Mr. B. Elliott (Ostend), 70. Miss Dorothy Weyell and Mr. Clive Neate (Ostend), and Mrs. A. Way (Palm Beach) and Mr. S. Pegler (Omiha) wore the winners of competition dances.
